Austin artist Christine Terrell - a self-coined "Reckless Recycler", has been crafting innovative accessories out of upcycled and recycled materials since 2004. I first saw her work in Parts & Labour - when she was making wallets out of woven paint chips. I purchased one for a friend - and he and I were both surprised at how long it lasted.
Christine's company, adaptive reUse, has been a strong presence in the Austin "green scene" - since long before the current "green" label was so popular. She was interviewed as a featured artist on the East Austin Studio Tour by the Austinist in 2008. It was important to us to pick a wide variety of artists for The Lone Star Ladies Present: Shop Austin 2009 - and Christine's work really encompasses the Austin Spirit.
As a fellow artisan, it's wonderful to watch someone's body of work progress and grow. Christine's work continues to strengthen in composition and across many techniques. Her jewelry is bold in it's statement - that recycling can be devastatingly fashionable - and "colorful and whimsical" in style.
