Vendor View with AYC & Austin Nicole Handbags

AYC (Austin Yarn Co.) was founded in 2007 by Cathie Hutchins because a simple felted wool bag that was knitted by a friend changed her life in 2003!  "Today. AYC is the culmination of her passion for uniquely designed, handmade, felted wool accessories with a deep dedication to fair trade practices, growing Austin's grassroots economy and women-owned businesses."

What makes your products uniquely "Austin"?
I knit and boil my own felt, design and assemble all of my handbags/gig bags here in Austin; doing my part to keep Austin working.

Who is your biggest inspiration?
My late husband.

What is your favorite "Austin" restaurant to eat at?
Polvos!

 *********

Handmade totes, clutches and messenger style bags primarily constructed out of linen or cotton materials - this is Austin Nicole Handbags, founded in 2008 by Austin Hankins.

What makes your products uniquely "Austin"?
Aside from being made by Austin, "the girl," my products reflect my love of bold colors and nature inspired prints, which have always reminded me of Austin, "the city." My products have also become increasingly "eco-friendly" over time due to the influence of Austin's eco-conscious efforts.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
My grandmother. She made over 100 quilts in her lifetime and the same patient hands that patched together each quilt, guided my hands over so many wonderful projects. I started Austin Nicole Handbags so that I could share with others what my grandmother shared with me. The art of making handmade items takes time – takes patience – takes love. I love sewing. I love crafting. I love sharing with others my passion for creating. By fueling these passions, my grandmother has always inspired me.
We're inspired by AYC, a returning vendor, and Austin Nicole Handbags, a new vendor to Shop Austin for 2010!

Vendors have asked us many times, "Do you flood your show with vendors in the same category, or do you have a firm limit for each category?"  The answer is "no" & "no".  AYC and Austin Nicole Handbags are the perfect example of why there is no firm limit - same category, TOTALLY different handbags...

XO,
allison
