Vendor View with Debra Gikas & M Schopper Ceramics

Debra Gikas, Metal Artist fabricates beautiful, copper patina, fused copper, silver and bronze jewelry and each are a one of a kind piece of art, and we are excited to have her as a Vendor for Shop Austin 2010:

What makes your products uniquely "Austin'?
My brother, Daryl Colburn, is a collected artist and has been a copper sculptor for 36 years. He has taught me his Patina techniques that he developed over the years. His techniques have opened possibilities in the metal arts world and I am proud to be working with him, developing my own style and design.  I have a South Austin studio and am proud to be an Austin artist.

What is your favorite "Austin" thing to do, restaurant to eat at, or place to go?
Meet other artists, take in the theater, love Bess' Bistro, nostalgic eateries like Threadgills, Kerby Lane...

M Schopper Ceramics  by Melanie Schopper - colorful ceramics for everyday use:

What makes your products uniquely "Austin'?
I studied and worked for 7 years in a porcelain studio in Austin; I've lived here for 18 years and all my work is made in Austin.

What is your favorite "Austin" thing to do, restaurant to eat at, or place to go?
I like the Driskill, Bouldin Creek Cafe, and Mundi.  I like to listen to music at the Bass Concert Hall.

Who is your biggest inspiration?
Sun Yong Chung of Ginko Studios

Both Debra Gikas & Melanie Schopper are new artists to Shop Austin this year and we are excited to showcase their work.  They prove that fine craft and handmade can go hand-in-hand!  Melanie's eye-popping ceramics and Debra's beautiful jewelry will be a booth you don't want to miss!

XO,
allison
