Whipstitch Wednesday: Zipper Rosettes

"whipstitch" - a quick note, or a little bit of info...

If you're like me - you love fashion, art and crafting - and like to keep up with what's hip!  Well, about two years ago I saw a cool Zipper Brooch featured in a magazine, and thought - wow, that is so cool!  Since then, a slew of designers have incorporated metal zipper rosettes on everything from shoes to necklaces to hair accessories.  It's still very popular, and everyone I showed them to this week had never seen them before!

The best thing about this design element is that it's easy to do, timeless, and can snazz up just about anything you own!  I commissioned local milliner Laura Del Villaggio to make me a purple rosette hair clip, and she delivered the darling item to me this weekend.

Saturday night I was exhausted from a long outdoor show, but inspired by the other artists - and I wanted to make a simple project by hand... and so I searched for tutorials on how to make the Zipper Rosette, dug through my stash of vintage zippers - and made 18 of them over the next 24 hours!  I'll be using them to embellish some new wristlet bags, but if you want to learn how to make your own, here are some great resources!
