This site offers a "deal a day" for sewing, quilting, knitting and more, so sign up now for their email newsletter so you don't miss out!

Treasure Tuesday - Twitter sale at Merritt Gade Fine Handmades

Many of my friends who are not part of the "new media" world of facebook and twitter often ask me - "what's the point?"  Well - one of the best things about these sites is the deals you can find on fashion, jewelry, crafts, classes, family outings, and more!

Don't have time to follow people on twitter or keep up on facebook?  We've got you covered!  Anytime we see a good deal on handmade goodies we will let you know!

So today's Treasure Tuesday features a 20% off sale in the Etsy Shop of Merritt Gade.  Her unique jewelry and accessories are made with innovative combinations of colored wire, semi-precious stones and beads, and range from funky eclectic to artsy chic.

My favorite thing in her shop right now are these AMAZING earrings!  They're only $34.00 - and with the 20% off sale they're a steal at $27 and change!  Simply enter "TWEET" in your conversation to the seller when you check out - and Merritt will give you the discount.  (The sale only lasts through JUNE 30th - so hurry!)

Happy Shopping!

Haute Event Recap: 2010 Treasure City Thrift Fashion Show

The annual Treasure City Thrift Fashion Show brings together a diverse group of Austin Designers - from professionals to beginning hobbyists, and challenges them to create looks made from recycled materials.

This year was the first year for team Anne Marie Beard of *annemarie* and Laisa Chavez of LaLa.  Our looks were coordinated together down to the last detail.    It was an honor to participate in this fundraiser for TCT, and a great way to express creativity and see what this amazing city of artists had to offer.

We think pictures speak louder than words - so check out the featured pics below!  Click on the picture to see a detailed caption, link to the designer (if they have a website!) and the full album.

Treasure Tuesday: Sharp Style

Austin Designer Bonnie Rue of Model Citizen Clothing has a sharp eye for 80's revival and punk-themed fashion.  Her signature look incorporates tigers and hearts into a party girl vibe that reminds me oh so much of early MTV.

Her latest creation - "Righteous Razor Blade Earrings" - are sure to give you a sharp edge on style.  Bonnie assures us the razor blades are "faux" and won't cause actual damage if used in a club fight... but they're sure to turn some heads!

Bonnie was also recently invited to attend the POOL tradeshow in Vegas - just about the hippest Fashion Industry Show where buyers from across the Nation come to seek out goods for their stores.

Unfortunately - the ceiling of her bedroom FELL ON HER HEAD (she is ok!!!)... and her subsequent move ate up all of her funds to make the trip.

Wanna help a girl out?  Pledge $1, $5 or more - and help this Austin Designer make a splash at POOL in Vegas!

Blue Genie Art is a community leader in Austin's active art scene.
Over the last 10 years, Blue Genie Art has helped establish a city that could proudly have the slogan, "Keep Austin Weird".  Blue Genie's sculptures and murals have helped create a mood in Austin that has boosted commerce and tourism  (Austin Mural, Bob Bullock History Museum).  And in so doing, we have also helped raise the level of awareness of art in general in Austin, Texas."

Edible Handmade: Crafty Coffee Shake

Crafters and others who work from home know the temptation of all day snacking, coffee drinking and facebook playing better than most... it's so easy to get distracted!

Here in Austin, Texas - not only does it get hot, it gets HOT - and a hot, hungry, tired Crafter is not productive. Well I have created my own shake to help me get through the days - this once a week treat will be sure to revive your spirits, and taste buds!

 Anne Marie's Shake:

1 Shot Espresso, chilled
1 Banana, chopped and frozen
1 container low cal/low sugar whipped chocolate yogurt, frozen
2 scoops low cal/low sugar vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt
Handful of ice

Blend baby, blend - and enjoy! I feel energized for hours after this afternoon snack! You can really make it any flavor - but I like chocolate and vanilla mixed together!  This makes enough for two shakes - you can share, or freeze half of it for another day!

xo, Anne Marie Beard
